So about a year ago, I had come out of watching the world rapid and blitz (there was so much going on in chess that year, emotions running high) and was in deep need of queer stories set in the world of chess, but I could not find them, so I had no choice but to make one. So I wrote one for myself and my own contentment, really. Then a friend suggested I turn it into a comic, and I could not let go of that idea. It seemed like a fun, creative challenge for someone who likes to illustrate but has never made a comic.
One year later, I have learnt how to make a comic, and as I am slowly getting ready to share the first chapters with the world it is becoming very evident that I am not the only one with a deep need to see queer stories in the world of sport, as a Gay Hockey show is now the seemingly most popular thing on the planet. And it also has a Russian protagonist. It’s fun, but also a weird one. Here’s to all the colseted Ilya’s of the world! (And being about halfway finished with this thing.)
